Writing Tip: This symbol (&) is to used to connect words. The word (and) is used to connect the narrative that it sits between AND indicate the end of a sentence or statement. Be careful with multiple uses of the word (and) in a single sentence.

If this happens in your writing, you may need to break up the sentence or connect the words/phrases with an ampersand (&) if it makes grammatical sense. And I hate the word ampersand by the way. It's extra and pretentious. 🙄

Example:

Marriage is all about love & war, sickness & health, ups & downs, and the strength to stay the course.
